Food in Communities Conference 2024

We recently held our annual Food in Communities Conference and this year, it took place at the Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall. The conference brought together a range of stakeholders – including food partnership co-ordinators, steering group members, local authorities food producers and wholesalers, public health practitioners, the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner as well as colleagues from Health Boards and Welsh Government.  Throughout the day, delegates engaged in constructive conversations about strengthening food systems resilience and discussed how to foster collaboration between communities, public bodies and farmers.

The conference focussed on three different areas:

  1. Food Resilience: a session with Professor Tim Lang, facilitated by Bwyd Powys and Our Food 1200
  2. Food systems guidance for Public Bodies and Public Service Boards: a workshop in collaboration with the Future Generations Commissioner’s Office
  3. Farming and Food Partnerships: a workshop in partnership with Bwyd Sir Gâr Food, examining the relationship between food partnerships and the wider farming community

We also celebrated the achievements of the Torfaen Food Resilience team and heard about some of the brilliant work that’s happening across the food partnership, including learning more about Inspire+, the organisation that catered at the event.

You can access the full slide presentation that we showed at the event here.

The outcomes of the workshop on food systems guidance for Public Bodies and Public Service Boards will be posted here shortly.
